speaking to BBC Sport

It is over 26 years since Newcastle played their only ever away league game away at Bournemouth, Micky Quinn opening the scoring before the hosts came back and won 2-1.

Moving forward to the present day, Pearce says that Bournemouth have to ‘get in Newcastle’s faces’ as they gave Spurs too much space/respect when getting hammered 5-1 in their last home game.

Previous to that, in their four other home Premier League matches, Bournemouth lost on the opening day to Villa but then got two creditable draws plus a victory over Sunderland.

As for Newcastle, Jonathan Pearce identifies one of Newcastle’s biggest problems with only one away goal all season, though he fancies United to at least score one.

However, when it comes to the result, the Match of The Day commentator predicts more misery for Newcastle and a long long journey home for the fans, as he fancies a home win.

Jonathan Pearce:

“On the day (9 September 1989) of the only previous league meeting at Bournemouth, Ride on Time went to number one. I loathed it. ‘Gotta get up. Gotta get up!’ The repetition was draining.

“That’s the danger of Bournemouth’s corrosive run to their confidence. Now’s the time to dig deep.

“Yes, Artur Boruc had a howler on my last visit. But the whole side gave Spurs too much room. They need to get in Newcastle faces.

“The visitors likewise need to worry about points, not injuries.

“Just one away goal scored is the worst record in the top 10 divisions.

“They (Newcastle) should score but I fancy Bournemouth’s Matt Ritchie to win it.”
