Mark Lawrenson thinks Jamie Vardy will be desperate to play against Newcastle on Saturday but his participation will be irrelevant…

Lawrenson believes that fourth bottom Newcastle will beat third top Leicester, whether Vardy is playing or not.

Leicester are unbeaten away from home this season with three wins and three draws, plus they have scored in all 12 of their Premier League matches.

Mark Lawrenson thinks that the battling but very fortunate win at Bournemouth could be the turning point in United’s season.

Let’s hope so.

Going head to head with predictions on BBC Sport with Mark Lawrenson is WWE star wrestler Neville.

Whilst Lawrenson goes for a close 2-1 win to United, Newcastle fan Neville goes for a more comfortable 2-0.

Now resident in America, Neville says that he rates the summer signings and thinks we will get a run of luck soon.

Mark Lawrenson:

“Jamie Vardy did not feature for England against Spain or France because of a hip injury but I can understand why he is desperate to play in this game, as he has the chance of equalling Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record of scoring in 10 successive Premier League games.

“Whether Vardy makes it or not, I have a feeling Newcastle will edge this one.

“The Magpies’ last game was probably their best result of the season – they got battered at Bournemouth but won 1-0 to climb out of the bottom three – and it might just prove to be a turning point.

“Lawro’s prediction: 2-1.”

Neville’s prediction:

“Newcastle have been a bit unlucky so far this season, I think we have made some good signings like Aleksandar Mitrovic, who is a force up front, and Ayoze Perez, who is coming into his own too.

“I like our squad and I feel we will get a better run of luck soon – we are due some.

“Leicester are on an unbelievable run but I hope we get a bit of luck on Saturday – and I’ve got to back the lads! 2-0.”
