Jamie Vardy is set to miss the trip to Newcastle on Saturday after pulling out of the England squad.
The Leicester forward injured his hip in their last Premier League match against Watford, when he scored the winner from the penalty spot and which meant Vardy had scored in nine Premier League matches in a row.
He then missed England’s defeat in Spain on Friday night, not even able to make the bench.
Though then after Friday’s match, Roy Hodgson claimed Jamie Vardy was 50/50 to play against France tonight (Tuesday).
However, that note of optimism quickly crumbled, with Vardy forced to withdraw from the England squad and return to his club for treatment.
With the forward forced to miss the France match 10 days after picking up the injury, reports in the local press suggest he is facing a losing battle to be fit to face Newcastle.
This would represent a massive boost to Newcastle if he does miss out, with Jamie Vardy’s fairytale rise from non-league player to top Premier League scorer and England player, looking unstoppable at the minute.
