Garth Crooks has accused Newcastle United of looking like a ‘spent force’ and says that Steve McClaren is out of his depth in the Newcastle job.
The comments come following the shambolic dispaly against Leicester, where Newcastle were second best all over the pitch.
Crooks admired the performance though of Jamie Vardy, who he says ran Newcastle ‘ragged’.
Nowhere was this better illustrated than when he ran the length of the pitch with Coloccini lagging behind, Vardy only just over-running the ball as he blasted past last man Vurnon Anita, which allowed Rob Elliot to smother.
As for McClaren, Garth Crooks says that he should be worried after only two wins in 13 Premier League games, especially now somebody like David Moyes is available after being sacked by Real Sociedad.
Garth Crooks speaking to BBC Sport:
“So he’s done it. Jamie Vardy has equalled Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record of scoring in 10 consecutive Premier League games.
“Against Newcastle the Leicester City striker looked electric and ran Steve McClaren’s side ragged from start to finish – which must be a matter of concern for the Magpies boss.
“At the moment Newcastle look like a spent force and Steve McClaren out of his depth. A dangerous position to find himself, especially now managers like David Moyes are suddenly available.
“Meanwhile, Vardy is starting to look more than just the real deal. Not bad for a lad who was playing for Fleetwood Town four years ago. It’s enough to make you start believing in fairytales.”
