Hatem Ben Arfa was watched by Didier Deschamps on Sunday afternoon ahead of naming his next squad.
The coach of the French national team travelled to see Ben Arfa’s Nice take on Lille at the Allianz Riviera Stadium.
The French media say that Hatem Ben Arfa was the main reason Deschamps was in Nice on Sunday, though he also has his eye on Ben Arfa’s Nice teammate Valere Germain, as well as Lille’s Rio Mavuba and Sofiane Boufal.
As it happens, it was a day when defenders were dominant, with the match finishing goalless.
However, Hatem Ben Arfa was still the biggest attacking threat on the pitch and had three shots, including two on target. Considering there were only five on target (4 for Nice 1 for Lille) in the whole match, it putsBen Arfa’s contribution into perspective.
France take on Germany at home on Friday 13 November, before travelling to take on England at Wembley on Tuesday 17 November.
As well as the Hatem Ben Arfa angle, it also raises the possibility of course of seeing Moussa Sissoko potentially playing against England.
