Crystal Palace 5 Newcastle 1  Saturday 28 November 3pm

We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle, to talk about some aspect of the match:

Nat Seaton:

“Crystal Palace had only scored seven goals before today from open play!

“It is their best ever Premier League result…

“Beginning to question why I travel to away games after yet another performance like this – sad thing is, am I surprised? NO.

“I thought there was the possibility of a trouncing, sadly the early goal filled me with false hope!

“Even Palace fans who I’ve just spoken with couldn’t believe how bad we were… Need I say more?”

Notts Toon:

“Complete and utter sh***.

“The end for McClaren surely but there is plenty of blame to go around.”

Paul Lyon:

“Hopeless! Even when we scored I thought to myself we’ve done that too early.

“To beat Newcastle at the moment opposition teams only need to turn up! We allow time & space on the ball, they just ghost past us. We make average teams look like world beaters.

“Performance wise it was very much the same as the Leicester one; turgid, gutless, heartless. There’s not even a degree of professional pride evident in this crop.

“If these players aren’t going to bother then why should us fans?”

Ben Cooper:

“Another good weekend in training, another depressing weekend.

“The luck may have been against us for a couple of their goals today but that is about all I can think of in defence of another pasting.

“Even worse for McClaren, this week has shown he is not as good a coach as fat Sam or Pardew.

“It doesn’t get much worse than that.”

George Stainsby:

“No shape, we can’t stop crosses, we have no confidence.

“I’m really glad we had a great week in training.

It might be a good idea to let us watch that.”

Jamie Swan

“Sorry – drunk.

“What a surprise. Not.

“FFS. Goodnight.”
