Ayoze Perez has picked up a top award back home in Tenerife but was unable to be there in person to collect it.
The striker had to miss out due to his commitments with Newcastle United but appeared via video-link, as his parents did the honours by accepting the award in person.
Ayoze Perez was chosen to be honoured with the Tenerife Sport Award, for his ‘meteoric career progress as a result of a huge football talent’.
As Antonio Perez and Antonia Gutierrez collected the award, it was also stated that he had been chosen due to his ‘desire to improve, the achievements during his career and his projection of football on behalf of the Canary Islands, the ideal ambassador’.
The Tenerife awards were celebrated at the ‘Santa Cruz Museum of Nature and Man’, where others also received gongs for culture, economics and politics.
The event was presented by model Patricia Rodríguez, actress and producer Mercedes Ortega and Queen of the Carnival of Las Palmas, Aranzazu Estevez.
