Ivan Toney has picked up his first award since signing for Newcastle United.

Yet to make his first start for the senior team, the former Northampton striker has made a couple of brief cameos from the bench.

Appearing against his old club in the League Cup, then a late sub agaibst Chelsea in the recent 2-2 draw.

However, his progress for the reserves hasn’t gone unnoticed and Ivan Toney has now been named the Barclays Under 21 Player of the Month for September.

The 19 year old scored two goals last month in three games for the reserves, the first in a 2-2 draw at West Ham.

Then the second was an excellent half-volley lob over the Swansea keeper when the reserves drew once again, this time on home soil at Whitley Park.

Peter Beardsley:

“I think we have got a real chance with Ivan – he has been a massive plus for us.

“He wants to score goals, he wants to make goals, and he wants the team to win – I think we have hit lucky with Ivan.”
