This is the kind of Newcastle team v Stoke that is needed

Here is the Newcastle team v Stoke that I think is needed to compete with the visitors today, giving United the best possible chance of consecutive home wins.

Jack Colback is both injured and suspended, with most fans assuming that Cheick Tiote will come in and replace him.

I also think that only one change should be made but I wouldn’t have Tiote…

The idea of him and Vurnon Anita in midfield is one that brings me out in cold sweats, I’m no big fan of Vurnon’s but Cheick Tiote has been shocking in his two 45 minute appearances in the last couple of matches.

Coloccini has had his red card rescinded but despite only one change in personnel in the team, I would make a few adjustments…

Paul Dummett has had all his best games for Newcastle at centre-back and on his return this season he has looked weak on the left, so I would pair him with Chancel Mbemba.

This would then mean you could move Coloccini into midfield and give a bit better cover to the defence than the hapless Cheick Tiote, plus the Captain’s distrbution is decent.

Maybe not ideal but Steve McClaren’s options are limited, plus Coloccini has been poor at centre-half for weeks, months, if not years.

Finally, even based on just two matches, playing Kevin Mbabu at left-back is a must, he has already shown far more promise than I have seen in both Haidara and Dummett’s careers at Newcastle in the full-back position.

To create the image above I used the NUFC team selector.

You can do the same by following the simple instructions HERE and then there are a number of great options where you can then also share your team via Twitter (include @nufcthemag in your tweet and we will share some of them with our 16k+ followers) , or you can share the selector on Facebook with friends, family and the rest of the black and white world. Alternatively, simply downloading the team image to the device you are using

When using the NUFC team selector you simply click on what team formation (4-3-3, 4-4-2 etc) you want, then click each position on the pitch and choose from the Newcastle United squad.

Go to the NUFC team selector now and choose and share your Newcastle team v Stoke.

Before every match, simply go to the menu at the top of this screen and click features, then on the drop down list click NUFC Team Selector and choose your team for every match.
