Steve McClaren ‘I’d like to see Papiss Cisse and Aleksandar Mitrovic together’

Steve McClaren has said that he would like to see Aleksandar Mitrovic and Papiss Cisse paired together up front.

The United boss says that when Mitrovic signed, he and his coaching staff intended to give that partnership a try but injuries and suspensions have helped to prevent that happening,

McClaren acknowledges that Ayoze Perez alongside Mitrovic has been the plus point in recent matches.

However, he claims that having Papiss Cisse also available is a big positive as well.

The Newcastle Head Coach blames the media for the Senegalese striker getting stick this season.

However, it is fair to say that most supporters aren’t convinced about Cisse’s form and commitment to the club, when he has made it onto the pitch he hasn’t looked as if he is busting a gut.

Along with Mitrovic, Ayoze Perez should be one of the first names on the team sheet and unless McClaren wanted to play all three players, there is no way surely he could now leave out Ayoze Perez to accommodate Papiss Cisse.

Steve McClaren talking to the Chronicle:

“He (Papiss Cisse) is another one who has undeservedly been getting criticism.

“This is football and with TV and everything now, they sensationalise everything.”

Partners:

“The plus for me has been seeing Mitrovic and Ayo (Perez) link up well, but also having Papiss there.

“We did talk at the beginning about Papiss and Mitrovic together, I’d like to see them together – it has not been possible so far but it could also be something for us.”
