Shola Ameobi has gone from being without a club to back playing football in just 24 hours.

Before today, Shola’s last competitive football was seven months ago on 21 March 2015, an 86th minute substitute as Crystal Palace beat Stoke 2-1.

This season, the former Newcastle striker had spent time on trial at five different Championship clubs (including Bolton) without getting a deal.

Only for out of the blue, bottom of the Championship club Bolton to agree a pay as you play deal with Shola, reportedly until the New Year.

Bolton had failed to score in eight of their 13 matches (all competition) this season but Shola Ameobi had to be content with a place on the bench today as Bolton hosted Leeds United.

That only lasted 12 minutes though as Gatehead born Gary Madine picked up a bad injury and Shola was back into competitive football as his replacement.

It has only taken his 19 minutes to strike, a right foot shot into the bottom corner after a corner, Bolton leading 1-0 after at half-time.

Shola is back!

Elsewhere, Adam Armstrong has started for Coventry at Swindon in League One, whilst in League Two Alex Gilliead is playing for Carlisle at Wycombe – Macauley Gillesphey on the bench.
