Paul Merson says that Newcastle will still be wondering how on earth they managed to lose 3-0 to Sunderland.
The former Arsenal player stating that Newcastle were still the better team even when playing 10 against 11 at the Stadium of Light.
Fabricio Coloccini can play this weekend after having his red card quashed but for Paul Merson it is too little too late, with Newcastle having to wait until March for the chance of revenge and ending the run of derby defeats.
Stoke City have won three of their last four Premier League matches and Merson admits to being a big fan of theirs.
Howvever, rather surprisingly, for himself as well, he has predicted a Newcastle win over Stoke.
The midweek win over Chelsea in the League Cup only came after two hours of football and penalties, so hopefully that will have some impact on both their team selection and energy levels when they come to St James Park.
Let’s hope so anyway.
Paul Merson speaking to Sky Sports:
‘Newcastle are probably sat there now thinking how they lost 3-0 to Sunderland. Even when they went down to 10 men they were the better team.
Coloccini should never have sent off, I know it’s been rescinded but it’s a bit late, Geordies have to stomach that for six months.
Stoke picked up a good result in midweek against Chelsea but their four-game winning run came to an end against Watford, which was a weird result.
I don’t usually go against Stoke but I fancy Newcastle here.’
