Newcastle winger Alex Gilliead was one of England’s star performers as they beat Holland 3-1 earlier today.

The England Under 20s team are taking part in the Mercedes Elite Cup in Germany.

Thanks to goals from Reece Brown, Brandon Barker and Sam Gallagher, England got off to a winning start in Heidenheim.

Despite not being amongst the goals, Alex Gilliead was in great form and played the first 72 minutes until replaced with the game looking safe at 2-0, though it ended up a 3-1 final score with late goals for both countries.

England go on now to play Turkey on Saturday and then hosts Germany next Tuesday.

England went two up within half an hour before adding the third in the 79th minute, the Dutch scoring a consolation in injury time.

Things couldn’t be going better for the Newcastle winger out on loan at Carlisle and getting his first taste of first tea, football, Alex Gilliead has already said that he hopes United will allow him to stay in Cumbria for an extended period.

Along with fellow Newcastle loan player Macauley Gillesphey, they helped Carlisle to almost pull off a memorable result at Anfield. The League Cup-tie going to extra time and then penalties, with Liverpool only just surviving via spot-kicks.
