Newcastle summer signing Ivan Toney says that despite arriving from League Two, he quickly found he was ‘playing at the same tempo as first team players’.

The former Northampton striker says that the players he looks up to in the Newcastle side are Papiss Cisse and Aleksandar Mitrovic.

With Ivan Toney adding that Mitrovic can go in ‘a little huff’ if he doesn’t get his own way.

I suppose that is better than seeing him in a big huff…

The 19 year old also says that if he is put in the first team he could handle it.

Speaking to The Mail, Ivan Toney gave the following Q and A:

Do you feel that you are ready for the first team?

“I think that I am capable of anything. If they throw me in the first team at the deep end then I can handle it but that is up to the manager to decide if he believes in me.”

What has it been like training and playing for Newcastle’s senior side?

“First time I trained I thought ‘Wow, this is tough’, but you quickly adapt and I soon found I was playing at the same tempo as the first team players.”

Are you looking to go out on loan – what are your plans for next 12 months?

“I just want to play football, I would be happy to go out on loan and I am sure the club will make the right decision for my development.”

Who do you look up to in the first team?

“The way Papiss Cisse is so clinical in front of goal is something I admire. Aleksandar Mitrovic is the same, but he’s also very physical and brings others into the game.”

What is Mitrovic like, a bit of a character?

“When he doesn’t get his own way then he has a little huff but he soon gets on with things and he’s a very good player.”
