Newcastle United are to recall Freddie Woodman from his loan spell at Crawley Town.

The 18 year old is currently in Skopje with England Under 19s, but after Tuesday’s European Championship qualifier against Italy, various north east media claim that their information is that the goalkeeper will then head to Newcastle rather than Crawley.

Both Freddie Woodman and Adam Armstrong can be recalled at any time and with Tim Krul joining Karl Darlow on the injury list last night, Woodman is expected to be on the bench against Norwich next Sunday, with Rob Elliot in the starting eleven.

The past few days have seen Freddie Woodman keeping clean sheets against both Macedonia and Finland, England winning both matches and Adam Armstrong scoring one of the goals that beat Macedonia.

Grabbing his chance of first team football with both hands, Woodman has impressed and helped his loan club to 18th place in League Two, despite some tough games where he has seen plenty action.

Whilst the young keeper is set to come back early, it is unlikely that Adam Armstrong will have his spell at Coventry cut short.

He is in electric goalscoring form for the Sky Blues but with Mitrovic and Perez looking easily the most healthy part of the Newcastle team, Armstrong should be allowed to carry on with his first team experience in League One.

That is of course just so long as Aleksandar Mitrovic successfully comes through this afternoon’s game between Serbia and Portugal…you can watch it on Sky Sports 5 – 5pm kick-off.
