Adam Armstrong is on fire, the Newcastle loan player making it 8 goals in only 9 matches on Saturday afternoon.

The 18 year old forward scored twice for Coventry against Shrewsbury, reinforcing the fact that he is showing his quality thanks to regular first team football.

The Geordie striker can score goals with his head as well as both feet and today it was the turn of his left one, two class finishes helping Coventry to a 3-0 win.

As you can see from this write-up on the official Coventry City website, it could have been a hat-trick.

Coventry City official website:

‘But just four minutes later, Armstrong had his goal. Fortune produced some excellent hold-up play before shimmying past his man and laying off the Newcastle loanee who confidently struck a left-footed effort from 20-yards into the bottom right corner to hand the Sky Blues a deserved advantage.

The second-half was a fairly routine affair for Tony Mowbray’s men and Armstrong had his second on 65 minutes. Fortune got another assist as he drove towards the area, layed off Armstrong who smashed a high left-footed effort into the roof of the net from 12-yards out.

Armstrong did get close to a hat-trick with minutes to go, as he beat three defenders before a turn of pace saw him get to the edge of the area, but he hit a left-footed drive wide.’

Adam Armstrong needs first team football to progress his career but with the state Newcastle are in after their latest embarrassing defeat and rock bottom of the table – it remains to be seen exactly what happens when his current loan ends in January.
