Steve McClaren has been going a little overboard when talking about Sam Allardyce in his pre-derby press conference.
The United boss says every club that Allardyce goes to, he does a great job.
I think fifty thousand fans in a football stadium on Tyneside would tell you something different…
McClaren, rather bizarrely, tries to play down the derby game so much, that he claims it is ‘no tougher than any other game’.
However, in terms of inflating egos, somebody 12 or so miles down the road will have been loving the press conference.
Steve McClaren declared that in the Premier League you face some of the best managers in the world, then included Sam Allardyce in that elite group of club bosses.
“Every game is tough in the Premier League, Sunday is going to be no tougher than any other game, We just know it is going to be very important for the club and the fans.
“It will be great to see Sam (Allardyce) again, great he is back in the game so quick. I wish him well after Sunday.
“The approach for this game is no different, it should be no different. Whatever manager it is, this is the Premier League, the biggest league in the world. You are pitting yourself against some of the best managers in the world and Sam is one of them.
“An excellent career and great experience in the Premier League, every club he goes to he does a great job.”
