Keith Curle is delighted to have now secured season long loans for Newcastle United’s Alex Gilliead and Macauley Gillesphey.
Both players have featured in five games for Carlisle in their initial 28 day loan and on Thursday it was announced that this was now extended until May.
The pair will also be allowed to play for their loan club in the FA Cup but Newcastle do have a recall option on the players.
Curle says that Alex Gilliead has the ‘ability to glide past people’ and believes he will also add goals to his game.
The Carlisle boss was very impressed initially at the defensive ability of Macauley Gillesphey but after mistakes in recent matches, Curle is looking at the player to show character and bounce back.
“These lads weren’t brought in as projects. They were brought in because they added something to the squad we didn’t have.”
“Alex has the ability to glide past people and run with the ball and I think he’s going to be a goalscorer as well.
“Macaulay was a breath of fresh air when he first came in. He made his debut against Liverpool and showed the defensive qualities that I know are there.
“It is a massive test for him now because he’s made a couple of mistakes. How you react to disappointments in this game is the making of you.
“We’re now looking forward to working with them and watching how they develop this season.”
