Jonas Gutierrez played a starring role in his first La Liga start for Deportivo La Coruna.
After missing out on pre-season and the early matches of the season, the Spanish Club have taken it slowly with the former Newcastle midfielder.
However, on Friday night he was given his chance in the starting eleven, after previously only a single substitute appearance against Granada.
Jonas Gutierrez and Deportivo were up against the stars of Atletico Madrid, the visitors would have gone top above Barcelona and Real Madrid with a win.
The match finished 1-1 with Atletico staying third and Deportivo in sixth.
Jonas played the first 69 minutes before being subbed, only to be expected after so long without regular football.
Even better news though is that Jonas Gutierrez was the pick of all the midfielders and attackers on the pitch, with the one-time United player playing on the left hand side of a three, behind the lone striker.
Reports in Spain say that most of Deportivo’s best football went down the left hand side and through Jonas Gutierrez.
