How the Newcastle team v Norwich is looking after injuries

I don’t want to scare you too much but this (see below) could be how the Newcastle team v Norwich will look in seven days time.

A match that has been repeatedly called a must win game, the first in a run of ‘winnable’ games running up until the start of December.

Tim Krul suffered what looked a bad knee injury on Saturday night meaning he could be out for some time. Which when you add to Karl Darlow already out injured, means Newcastle will almost certainly have to look to third choice Rob Elliot.

With no real positive news coming out of Newcastle regarding those already injured, then you have to look at the players who were in the matchday 18 at Manchester City.

That day, Steve McClaren called on Lascelles, Tiote and Thauvin from the bench, so we can assume they will be available plus Williamson Elliot and Cisse who were also on the bench.

I can’t include Siem de Jong as a possible starter against Norwich, as if he wasn’t chosen ahead of Yoan Gouffran for the match at the Etihad then you have to wonder when he will be fit enough to start any Premier League match.

With Daryl Janmaat pulling out of the Dutch squad with a knee injury I think the writing is on the wall with him, as it was two crunch Euros qualifiers he was formed to turn his back on – not friendlies.

If the likes of Haidara, Dummett, Colback and others remain on the sidelines then McClaren has even more serious selection problems than he has experienced recently.

I can see him bringing Williamson in to play with Coloccini, with possibly Anita dropping to left-back and Mbemba on the right, especially with Kevin Mbabu definitely out.

Lascelles looked poor at left-back against Manchester City and didn’t impress at centre-back in pre-season or in the league Cup this season.

Whilst we could have a new dream pairing in the middle of the pitch, with Gouffran retaining his place and Tiote given a chance now he is fully fit – Steve McClaren having talke dup the Ivory Coast midfielder in recent weeks.

Impossible to see the United boss accommodating Papiss Cisse in a team already including Mitrovic and Perez, whilst Thauvin would be a big shout after his confidence has taken a battering already.

This is how I see a possible/likely Newcastle team v Norwich:

To create the image above I used the NUFC team selector.

You can do the same by following the simple instructions HERE and then there are a number of great options where you can then also share your team via Twitter (include @nufcthemag in your tweet and we will share some of them with our 16k+ followers) , or you can share the selector on Facebook with friends, family and the rest of the black and white world. Alternatively, simply downloading the team image to the device you are using

When using the NUFC team selector you simply click on what team formation (4-3-3, 4-4-2 etc) you want, then click each position on the pitch and choose from the Newcastle United squad.

Go to the NUFC team selector now and choose and share your Newcastle team v Norwich..

Before every match, simply go to the menu at the top of this screen and click features, then on the drop down list click NUFC Team Selector and choose your team for every match.
