Ayoze Perez says that it is ‘beautiful’ for the Canary Islands that they now have three players in the Premier League.

With a population of only around two million, the Canary Islands can now boast David Silva, Pedro and Ayoze Perez playing regular football in England’s top tier.

Thiis has attracted great interest back home, especially when Perez and Pedro lined up last Saturday.

However, Ayoze Perez was full of praise for Premier League debutant Kevin Mbabu who really got under Pedro’s skin with an accomplished display.

Ayoze Perez talking to NUFC TV:

“It was a really good performance, he (Kevin Mbabu) had a big game, it was his chance and he took it.”

“After the game we were sad because we knew that we had three points and we dropped two, but we have to keep that standard because that is the level we need.”

‘Population of Canary Islands is only around two million but three players (Perez, Pedro and Silva) in the Premier League?’

“Yes three in the Premier League and it is really big news back home, everybody follows the (Premier) League, always supporting us and that is beautiful for our islands.

“Now my home is in Newcastle and I really like the town and the people, because all of them support the football and the team.

“Now I can speak the language better, it really helps, away from the football I like shopping and going for food but I can’t go to the cinema yet because I don’t understand enough.”

‘Spoke to you before you made your debut (as a sub v Man City) a year ago when you were looking forward to maybe playing against David Silva, you go into this game as David Silva’s equal, does that show how far you have come?’

“Another tough game, I remember that game, my first game. After last weekend (Chelsea) we can go there (Etihad) and fight and take points.

“Saturday depends on us, they (Man City) are going to be a little bit tired (after playing Borussia Monchengladbach on Wednesday) and we may take advantage, but we have to work to the same level as against Chelsea.

“We are more confident after nearly beating the champions and I think we showed we can be a good team and take points from anyone.”

Playing with Aleksandar Mitrovic:

“It was really good, for me I felt really comfortable with him, he is a top player and we can do good things together.”

Goals target:

“I don’t want to put a number but I hope many goals, good performances and if I can beat the last number (seven goals last season), I want to do it.

“Howay the lads!”
