Monday afternoon saw another red card for Newcastle, only 24 hours after the disaster had unfolded at the Stadium of Light.
This time it was Newcastle reserves (Under 21s) who were on the receiving end, Gael Bigirimana getting his marching orders after a second yellow on 76 minutes.
By the time that red card came around, Newcastle were already 5-4 down against Derby County in a remarkable game.
Bizarrely this followed a game between the two clubs on Saturday on Tyneside, with Newcastle’s Under 18s coming out 5-4 on top.
This time though there was no happy ending for Newcastle as after Bigirimana’s departure Derby added their sixth goal and the tenth in the match combined, to give a final score of 6-4 to the home team.
