With the summer transfer window closing on Tuesday (1 September), the Newcastle United Premier League squad will now have to be submitted.

Newcastle can name a maximum of 25 players, with any Under 21 players deemed as extra to that list.

For the purposes of this Premier League squad, Under 21 players are as follows:

‘An Under 21 player is defined as one who is under the age of 21 on 1st January in the year (2015) in which the season commences.’

Where Newcastle benefit with their summer signings is that both Chancel Mbemba and Aleksandar Mitrovic qualify as Under 21 players, with Mbemba having turned 21 on 8 August this year, whilst Mitrovic doesn’t turn 21 until 16 September (next month).

At a rough(***) guess, I think this will be the 25 man squad Newcastle will announce:

Krul, Darlow, Elliot

Coloccini, Dummett, Williamson, Lascelles, Haidara, Janmaat, Taylor, Good

Colback, Wijnaldum, Sissoko, Anita, de Jong, Gouffran, Obertan, Thauvin, Tiote, Marveaux, Bigirimana

Cisse, Perez, Riviere

The Under 21 Players

Aarons, Mbemba, Toney, Satka, Mitrovic, Barlaser, Gillesphey, Gilliead, Mbabu, Heardman, Roberts, Smith, Sterry

(***) Not a difficult rough guess, as with the Vuckic loan deal to Wigan and Shane Ferguson’s loan being extended at Millwall, Newcastle only have 25 players (who don’t qualify as Under 21) to choose from.

Although at the minute, Curtis Good, Sylvain Marveaux and Emmanuel Riviere are all injured.

The five players currently out on loan

Ferguson, Armstrong, Cabella, Woodman, Ameobi

Whether Newcastle should have brought in additional players will I’m sure be discussed in plenty detail over the next 13 days before the next match against West Ham.

However, what is clear is that there was room in the squad to bring in other players, as the likes of Good, Marveaux and Bigirimana look to have no chance of playing any part for Newcastle in the Premier League over the course of the next four months.
