Steve McClaren has stated that Papiss Cisse will not be sold.

The Newcastle Head Coach responded to reports from the Middle East that claimed clubs in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates were ready to bid for the United forward.

The transfer windows are yet to close in these two neighbouring countries and so they are free to still bring players in.

However, with regard to Papiss Cisse, McClaren says that ‘he is going nowhere’.

Pointing to his goals record last season, the United boss says that Cisse was the player that Newcastle missed when they were struggling.

McClaren added that ‘Newcastle have a better chance of winning with Papiss in the team’, which would maybe appear a little strange to some fans considering that he has been left out of the last two matches.

For the record, Cisse’s goalscoring record is as follows:

Premier League only: 35 goals in 100 matches (76 starts 24 as sub)

All Competitions: 42 goals in 114 games (88 starts 26 as sub)

Plus, the Senegalese forward was left on the bench until the final 12 minutes against Arsenal, despite Newcastle trailing, Ayoze Perez being brought on before him.

With Mitrovic out, it would have left most fans guessing that Papiss Cisse would automatically replace him, though the talk from Steve McClaren and his coaching staff has been lukewarm on Cisse but they have been big on praising Ayoze Perez .

The team the fans chose to face West Ham (see HERE) contains BOTH Cisse and Perez but it would appear likely that only one of the two will play.

If it is Perez that gets the nod then you would imagine Papiss Cisse would be thinking the writing is on the wall for him at Newcastle.

Steve McClaren:

“He is not going anywhere. I came here and there was a lot of debate and talk about Papiss Cisse coming or going and whether he would be staying,

“I said to Lee Charnley, if you look at his record it’s fantastic, 11 goals in 22 games (11 starts and 11 from the bench) was fantastic and, to be perfectly honest, he was the one who was missed when the team weren’t winning those games.”

Newcastle have a better chance of winning with Papiss:

“He is a threat and he is a goalscorer – when you have got Papiss in the team you always have a chance of winning games and I think that is what he did last season.

“I think Newcastle have a better chance of winning with Papiss in the team, he played the first two games and not the last two, but we hope he comes back ready to prove a point.”
