Steve McClaren has reacted to claims made by the club’s preferred media partner.

The Mirror had claimed that the Newcastle Head Coach wasn’t convinced by Rolando Aarons and was planning to loan him out, despite United looking desperately short of creativity and goals.

McClaren has become the third Manager/Head Coach (after Pardew and Carver) at St James Park to decide that Aarons isn’t deserving of a place in the first team for Premier League matches.

Turning 20 in November, the winger has still yet to start a league match, despite looking one of Newcastle’s best players in pre-season.

It is touch and go whether the winger will be fit today (to sit on the bench) but this is what Steve McClaren had to say when asked if the Mirror’s story was true and if he was going to loan out Rolando Aarons:

“No, no.

“He has a little niggle at the present moment and he is part of our plans.

“Again, another player who is perfect for our style and our system with his speed and pace.

“At the present moment he is with us.”

Not sure what to make of McClaren’s last line there, considering Rolando Aaarons has still failed to sign a new contract despite talks starting 10 months ago…
