Steve McClaren says that Newcastle ‘very easily could have equalised’ against Watford but have to ‘move on and find a win’.

The United boss also claims that his players reacted very well after going two goals down.

McClaren stated that his players have to start and finish matches better, with Watford being the second time that Newcastle have conceded in the first 10 minutes this season in the Premier League.

The Head Coach added that he has no doubts about the fitness and spirit of the team – listening to Steve McClaren it makes you wonder why ‘some’ people are worried…

Steve McClaren talking to NUFC TV after the 2-1 Watford defeat:

“First half we conceded two goals and we were disappointed with the reaction against West Ham after going 2-0 down – we said at half-time, this is a test and how are you going to react?

“The players reacted very well, very positive and we very nearly turned it around and got something out of it.”

A few things…:

“We have got to start better, the first 10 minutes…the last 10 minutes, are vital in a game you know. We have done that (conceded in first 10 minutes) twice now and not started very well.

“It is just one of quite a few things that we need to look at.”

It wasn’t to be…:

“I thought we had opportunities and no doubts about our fitness and our spirit. We very easily could have equalised and could have had a penalty, but it wasn’t to be and we have to move on and find a way to win.”
