There are claims in Spain today that Florian Thauvin could be a target for Barcelona.
Mundo Deportivo list the Newcastle player as one of those who could replace the recently departed Pedro, who moved this summer to Chelsea.
Barcelona are currently in the middle of a transfer ban, although this still hasn’t stopped them buying players such as Turan and Vidal, even though they can’t play them until the ban comes to an end.
Describing him as one of France’s ‘most promising young talents’, Mundo Deportivo say that Barcelona could land him for no more than 25m Euros (approx £18m).
They also list the likes of Antonio Candreva (Lazio), Jesus Navas (Man City) and Carlos Vela (Real Sociedad) as possible targets.
Whilst Turan and Vidal will become available for Barcelona in January when the transfer sanctions are lifted, there is little doubt that Barca will also want to add more players once they have the freedom to operate again.
However, the article by Mundo Deportivo misses a key factor with Florian Thauvin.
The French winger has already played for both Marseille and Newcastle this season, so can’t play for a third team in this campaign.
Let’s hope Thauvin does plenty this season to justify interest from the likes of Barca next summer, though of course without an eventual move.
