Shola Ameobi upstaged by Eusebio on Wolves debut

Shola Ameobi made his first, and possibly last, appearance for Wolves on Monday night.

Having trained with the Midlands club after failing to reach agreement with Huddersfield Town, the former Newcastle striker played 68 minutes for the Wolves Under 21s at Swansea.

However, he was upstaged in the game by Portuguese winger, and namesake of an all-time great, Eusebio Bancessi.

The Portuguese winger scored both goals as Wolves went down 3-2 against the Swansea second string.

33 year old Shola Ameobi was replaced by 16 year old Niall Ennis with just over 20 minutes to go.

Before the game, Wolves boss Kenny Jackett said that if Shola does sign, then it will almost certainly be on a short-term deal for the Championship club.

Kenny Jackett:

“We will see how he (Shola Ameobi) does in this particular game (Swansea), whether we can then extend that and see whether he can bring some experience to our frontline.

“Experience, power, size, whether he can offset some of the forwards we have got, and give us some balance, the ability to hold the ball up – certainly some presence in the 18 yard box.”
