Newcastle star ‘We play a bit more football now…’

Newcastle star Rolando Aarons has welcomed the changes brought in by Steve McClaren.

The United winger says that ‘everything is different this year’ compared to the days under Alan Pardew and John Carver.

Aarons points to the team playing more football now, as opposed to the long ball game that was Pardew’s trademark for much of his time at St James Park.

Of course you have to dilute what any player says about the current manager, if you go back then you would find similar club-sanctioned quotes from various players being equally supportive of both John Carver and Alan Pardew.

However, our own eyes tell us that despite not having won a Premier League game yet, there has been a concerted effort to improve the style of football and pass it about.

Naturally, bringing in better technical players such as Wijnaldum, Thauvin and Mbemba will help bring that about regardless, whatever the team orders from the manager/head coach.

Rolando Aarons has also credited Steve Black for the input he is putting into the team, enigmatically saying ‘people don’t know what goes on in our lives away from football’.

I think most of us would guess that what goes on is pretty much what the rest of us have to deal with, though without the financial security Premier League players now have.

Being in the public eye is of course a challenge but it does come with the territory if you want to make it in the Premier League.

Rolando Aarons speaking to the Chronicle:

“With missing a lot of games last season I am just buzzing to be fit enough to be in contention.

“Everything is different this year and you can tell that by the way we play and gel together. We play a bit more football now, a bit more patient, we pick the right times to attack and it’s good.”

Aarons on Steve Black:

“The mental side of sport is very important, people don’t know what goes on in our lives away from football and it’s hard to focus all the time – Steve (Black) is important for us in that and he’s doing a great job.”
