Newcastle loan star Adam Arstrong has been chosen as the League One player of the month award for August, maybe one of the easiest decisions the panel will have ever had to make.

Armstrong was one of four on the League One shortlist along with Bradley Dack (Gillingham), Sam Mantom (Walsall) and Jim McNulty (Rochdale).

Adam Armstrong has started with five goals in five matches for Coventry City, including a couple of goal of the season contenders.

The 18 year old scored a brace against Wigan Athletic on the opening day of the season, then another two more away at Millwall.

Adam Armstrong grabbed yet another crucial goal as he helped the Sky Blues to a 3-2 win over Crewe Alexandra.

As well as his goals, the number nine has been a constant threat and worked hard for the team, grabbing his chance with both hands as at last he’s had the chance of regular football to progress his career.

Adam Armstrong:

“It’s a great honour to win the award and totally unexpected.

“I’m always confident I can get goals but I never thought I’d get off to the start I have done at Coventry.

“Everyone from the manager and his staff, to the players and all the fans, have made me feel so welcome at the club. This award is for all of them really.

“Hopefully it won’t be the only success we can achieve together this season.”

Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray

“We’re all delighted to learn that Adam has won the Player of the Month award and he definitely deserves it.

“He’s had a fantastic month and we’ve all been really impressed with him since he joined the club in pre-season.

“Adam shows a fantastic humility on the training ground which means he is always listening to what you’re saying and always looking to improve.

“With his natural enthusiasm for the game and his ability to learn, I’m sure we’ll see more from him as the season goes on.”
