The CIES Football Observatory have rated Chancel Mbemba as the best performing Under 21 central defender in the Premier League so far this season.

The Swiss based football statisticians made their analysis based on data provided by OptaPro and takes into account performance in six key areas of the game:

Rigour, recovery, distribution, take on, chance creation and shooting.

The results were for all outfield players and split into five areas of the pitch:

Central defence, Full-back, Defensive midfielder, Attacking midfielder and Forwards.

The top 15 Premier League players were listed in each category and Chancel Mbemba was the only Newcastle player to be included in the top 75 performing players.

He was ranked 12th out of all the Premier League’s central defenders, but was the top ranked one when only the Under 21 category was applied.

Only those who have played for at least 60% of domestic leagues minutes are included in the analysis.
