Newcastle 1 Watford 2  Saturday 19 September 3pm

We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle, to talk about some aspect of the match:

Nat Seaton:

“I wasn’t expecting any miraculous improvement from Monday night but I didn’t expect that performance!

“Not only did we appear tactically clueless, at times I saw a lack of desire that was extremely worrying looking forward.

“From the off, Watford wanted it way more than we did. No consolation for me in the second half – slight improvement.

“A home defeat to a newly promoted team that had only won one game and scored 3 goals so far this season says it all.”

George Stainsby:

“We didn’t win a header. We didn’t get on the end of anything. A better patch in the second half but we’re too slow. Plan A isn’t working. “

Paul Lyon:

“Poor performance, we were passive for large parts of the game.

“A number of our 11 were passengers when they should be forcing their presence. A small improvement in the 2nd half but ran out of steam.

“Worrying times.”

Jamie Swan:

“Jesus, Mary and Joseph on a Harley Davison could have crossed the turf and not woken our slumber.

“Watford fancied it and we couldn’t cope. Looking forward to Chelsea and Man City now, like the thought of urinating a melon. Unhappy days.”

Jamie Smith:

“Very concerning as for the second game in a row the ‘solid base’ game plan is blown apart by woeful defending.

“The opposition were gifted a two goal lead we would never look capable of eclipsing.

“Cisse a disgrace again and it’s very difficult to see where goals are going to come from in the coming months.

“A must win has been lost.”

James Rutherford:

“Coloccini looks more ready to collect his pension than play centre back in the Premier League.

“When your biggest attacking threat is the right back (again), you know things are grim.”

Ben Cooper:

“Too many players played badly today.

“If you want to win games in the PL you need to play better and try harder than we did in the first half.

“We’re desperate for a goalscorer and a leader now.”
