Jack Colback says that there are fine margins in the Premier League and that only West Ham this season is where Newcastle ‘probably haven’t had a great game’.

The Newcastle midfielder says that the difference on Monday night was West Ham’s quality in the final third of the pitch, especially Dimitri Payet.

Colback says that winning is a habit and the confidence can flow from there, which is an essential starting with Watford tomorrow.

Rather worryingly, Jack Colback thinks that the team still have a bit of a hangover from the form of last season.

If that’s the case then they need to shake off immediately because already lying rock bottom of the table, recent seasons have shown that once this set of players goes on the slide then it takes some stopping.

Jack Colback talking to NUFC TV:

“The season hasn’t started as maybe everybody would have hoped. Two tough games where we went down to 10 men and you can pretty much write off those games really.

“You look at Southampton and we should have won, Man U a good point and then obviously West Ham we didn’t perform on the night. So three home games now and hopefully we can now take maximum home wins.”

Fine margins:

“There’s fine margins really in this league and I think their (West Ham’s) bit of quality in the final third was the difference really – Payet. Produced a great finish and then the timing of his second goal kills us really.

“We analyse and see why things happened and then move on to Watford.

Winning is a habit:

“Winning is a habit really, once you get one it brings confidence and we are maybe still suffering from the form last season – but you know, it is a new start for the club, obviously the new manager and staff have come in.

“It is going to take a little time but we have seen positive signs in the other games. Probably only West Ham where we’ve not had a great game but that can happen in this league.
