Hatem Ben Arfa is suddenly back in fashion on the other side of the Channel.

After making a scorching start to the season for unfashionable Nice, the French media and public are now talking about the Newcastle United reject getting back into the French squad.

Ben Arfa is now joint top scorer in France with six goals in eight matches, having scored another two on Sunday night against St.Etienne.

Today, L’Equipe presented a front page with the headline ‘The Ben Arfa show’.

However, it is Hatem Ben Arfa himself who is rubbishing the idea of getting a call-up on Thursday when France announce their next squad:

“No, I have to confirm it over the long-term, I have done well at the start of the season but I think the French team is still a long way away.

“If I manage to keep it up over the long-term then why not, consistency will make the difference.”

Asked about comparisons with Lionel Messi:

“Messi has his qualities, I have mine.

“He has the Ballon d’Or, I have nothing at all.”

End product:

“It is true that it was a nice goal (v St.Etienne – watch it HERE) but the most important thing is to be effective, it is not to dribble just for the sake of dribbling.

“You have to dribble with the ball to beat a man and score or to get an assist, that is what I managed to do this evening.”
