Friday afternoon brings news that Hatem Ben Arfa has lost his legal action against FIFA, with Sky Sports reporting that a decision had been reached.

The former Newcastle winger brought an action to try and claim 4m euros (£3m) from the governing body.

The compensation claim revolves around the player’s ban from football in the second half of last season.

Now the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has decided that development team games are official matches.

Ben Arfa was banned from playing for Nice because he had already played for Hull City and Newcastle reserves, the authorities deciding this equalled playing for two clubs (even though he didn’t appear for Newcastle’s first team).

The rule being you can’t play for more than two clubs in one season.

The action was based on ‘loss of career’ and ‘loss of wage’,  with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) being the authority to decide the case..

Hatem Ben Arfa has started the season back on form, already scoring two goals in his five Ligue 1 appearances.
