Hat-Trick from young Newcastle United star sinks Manchester United

The Newcastle United Under 18s had no wins out of three in the lead up to facing Manchester United earlier today.

Kicking off at 12.30 at Little Benton it proved to be a lively and physical contest early on, the match only lacking real goalscoring chances.

It took half an hour for a decent chance and it fell the visitors’ way, Zachary Dearnley putting the ball wide from a good position.

Only four minutes later Callum Smith put in a right wing cross which the Man Utd keeper totally misjudged and Lewis McNall headed into the net from close range, putting Newcastle 1-0 up.

The first few minutes of the second period saw United wrap the game up.

Remarkably it was two more right wing crosses from Smith and…two more headers from Lewis McNall, surely one of the more unusual hat-tricks, with crosses by the same player on all three occasions.

The same combination was to prove highly profitable for Newcastle in the first five minutes of the second half when Smith twice crossed for McNall to head past Dorrington to complete his hat-trick.

However, the very final stages of the game saw the home side almost fatally take their collective foot off the gas, late goals from Marcus Rashford and Zachary Dearnley leaving Newcastle United grimly hanging on in the final seconds.

Final Score: Newcastle United Under 18s 3 Man Utd Under 18s 2
