Steve McClaren has been speaking to the press ahead of Wednesday night’s match, revealing to the media the three latest Newcastle injuries.
The United Head Coach claims that Papiss Cisse has been struggling with a back problem since the match at Upton Park.
The striker is unlikely to feature against Sheffield Wednesday and we will wait and see what happens on Saturday.
However, there will be more than one or two of you that will be thinking that this ‘back problem’ has come along at a convenient time, with the striker shocking against both West Ham and Watford, and feeling the wrath of the Newcastle supporters.
Thankfully Aleksandar Mitrovic is at last back against Chelsea, whilst I wasn’t expecting Cisse to start against Sheffield Wednesday even if he was in peak condition, whatever that is…
McClaren also confirmed that Cheick Tiote won’t play on Wednesday but is now training.
A bigger concern is that the Head Coach has also revealed that both Massadio Haidara and Jack Colback have picked up ‘knocks’ and could be struggling.
With Haidara the only available left-back and stats today showing Jack Colback is the second hardest working player in the Premier League, these could be two big problems for Steve McClaren, if they prove bad enough to keep them out of the starting eleven.
Despite neither coming out of the Watford match with any positives, the weak nature of the squad leaves big possible gaps in the team.
“Massadio (Haidara) and Jack Colback have knocks. Papiss Cisse has had a problem with his back since West Ham.”
