Chancel Mbemba says he looks to learn from all the great players, including Philippe Albert and Fabricio Coloccini.

The former Anderlecht defender says that the fans made him feel very proud  on Wednesday night, despite the defeat by Sheffield Wednesday.

Mbemba says he loves it at Newcastle and says he will do ‘everything he can to defend the colours’.

Chancel Mbemba speaking to NUFC TV:

“Unfortunately in football, these things (losing to Sheff Wed) do happen, we need to go out and make sure we work even harder.

“I’d like to say thank you to all the fans who came along and supported us 100%, they really made me proud when I look back at the way they supported us.

“Chelsea have quality all over the pitch, but we have to remember that we have quality as well, and the best team is the one that will win on Saturday – we are going to do the fans proud.

‘Are Chelsea better than results suggest?’

“That is not for me to say, I focus on my team and my team only. I will do everything I can to defend the colours.

‘Do you think Newcastle are better than the table shows?’

“I think so, the start of the season has been hard – you win some games, you lose some games. You need to gel and you need to mesh together. What matters most is the end, not the start of the season.

‘Will you get better the more you settle in?’

“In life you have to keep on learning and hopefully keep on improving.”

‘You like to bring the ball out from the back, a bit like another former Anderlecht player, Philippe Albert.’

“Philippe Albert is a legend in Belgium, a great man, I also look not just at him, but all the great players to learn from.

“Even here at Newcastle we have some fantastic players. I am in a partnership with Colo amd love playing together, I learn a lot from him – Colo is fantastic.”
