Alan Shearer has previewed the Newcastle v Chelsea clash on Saturday teatime and admits he is struggling to find any positives for a United side still to win a Premier League match.

The former Newcastle number nine says that if there is on, then it the fact that it was a home win last season (the last three seasons actually).

Sending out a warning to the players, Shearer says that they’d better give it everything against the current champions or else ‘the fans will go mad’.

He still thinks Newcastle will probably lose but even if that is the case, the players must go down fightings, according to Alan Shearer.

With Mitrovic back, hopefully he will help cause a few more problems (and stay on the pitch…) than we have seen lately from the rest of the team.

Daryl Janmaat is also confirmed as ok, though it was revealed on Friday afternoon that three Newcastle players face a late fitness test.

Alan Shearer speaking to Coral:

“If there is any positive, and I am struggling to find one… it is that Newcastle got a great result against Chelsea last year at St James Park – so I hope that somehow they will take heart from that.

“They will have to come out against Chelsea and give it everything, because if they don’t, the fans will go mad – they just won’t accept the lack of fight. I hope for that reason it is a tough game for Chelsea.”

“Newcastle have been hammered by everyone in the last two weeks, whether it’s the media, the pundits or the fans.

“So if they are going to get beaten by Chelsea on Saturday, then they have got to go down fighting.”
