Nice to see Gabriel Obertan being useful…

The French winger was heading through Newcastle Airport after a trip to Paris in the international break, when there was an appeal for any passenger who could speak both French and English.

The UK border officials wanted to question a man who they suspected was trying to enter the country illegally.

The passenger was on a flight from Geneva to Newcastle on September 7 and attempted to enter the UK using what officials believed was a fake passport.

With the man claiming that he only spoke French, up stepped our hero Gabriel Obertan, to act as an interpreter.

With Obertan’s help the officers confirmed he was Congolese (not Chancel Mbemba we assume…)  and not French, as his passport claimed.

It is reported that the man has been released while a case for asylum is processed and, if that is unsuccessful, he will be deported.
