Here are 10 things that Newcastle fans knew this summer.
However, they are also 10 things that those within St James Park seem to have been incapable of seeing.
The net result is that the failure to deal with these 10 different issues has helped to leave Newcastle with many of the problems we see today.
Captain – Fabricio Coloccini has never been a Captain and never will be. He shows no leadership on or off the pitch, tried to leave the club halfway through the relegation fight of 2012/13, doesn’t inspire the other players and refuses to do TV interviews to represent the players and the club.
Mike Williamson is not good enough.
Steven Taylor will never stay fit, counting him as a defender Newcastle could rely on this season was beyond belief.
Moussa Sissoko has no interest in staying at Newcastle and only because his performances haven’t convinced ‘Champions League’ clubs to come in for him, is he still at St James Park. He should have been sold to whoever would pay the most this summer, whether they were in the Champions League or…the Championship.
Papiss Cisse is taking the mick, on and off the pitch. Should have been moved out of the club (which would have allowed a second striker to be brought in), even if he had to be given away.
Left-back – Newcastle sold the only (potentially) good left-back at the club when Davide Santon was pushed out of St James Park. Neither Paul Dummett or Massadio Haidara are good enough and a new one was needed.
Defence – A weak Newcastle defence was further undermind by the sales of internationals Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and Davide Santon, at least one other defender (preferably a centre-half) was needed as well as a left-back, as a minimum.
Fabricio Coloccini – As a player, Coloccini has been finished since 2011/12, the last three seasons he may as well have hung up his boots, as his personal displays (never mind his captaincy ‘skills’) have been totally lacking and he has been at the ‘heart’ of one of the consistently worst defences in the Premier League – only QPR conceded more goals last season.
Siem de Jong is knackered, counting him as one of your players this season was a bit like relying on winning the lottery to pay the mortgage this month.
