Tim Krul ‘Would be nice to get a couple of more new faces in’

Captain for the day, Tim Krul, still thinks it has been a ‘good pre season’ despite the defeat to Borussia Monchengladbach making it four losses out of seven.

The Newcastle keeper thinks that if the outfield players start taking the chances falling their way, then they can do really well.

However, he adds a note of caution that you can never be too optimistic because ‘you never know in the Premier League’.

Tim Krul speaking to NUFC tv:

“We can take a lot of positives from the game, a few good chances. Would have been nice to get a win but we played well – I think we can be really positive.

“It (the defending) was fine, they didn’t test us that much if I’m honest but I think we controlled the game well – It’s been a good pre season so far.

Interviewer: ‘You seem to have taken Aleksandar Mitrovic under your wing?

“I like to look after the new boys. I know it is difficult for them with a new country, new club, new people. He (Mitrovic) looks like a nice guy, all of them – Gini (Wijnaldum), Chancel (Mbemba) as well, all quality players.

“So I’m pleased we have signed them and obviously it would be nice to get a couple of more faces in just to strengthen the competition in places.

You can’t be too optimistic because you never know:

“I think if we start finishing the chances off, we can do really well. Though obviously you can’t be too optimistic because you never know in the Premier League.

“Southampton, Swansea, Man United, Arsenal; it’s going to be hard but sometimes it is best to get these difficult games out of the way and get into the tempo. I look forward to the St James Park roar next week, we’ve got some exciting players so hopefully we can really get them going.”
