At his pre-match press conference, Arsene Wenger picked out the one thing that he admires about Newcastle United.

Despite United not having beaten Arsenal at home since 2005…

Despite Newcastle only winning one of the last 19 games (home and away) against the Gunners…

Despite only two wins in the last 30 games for NUFC against the visitors…

…Arsene Wenger says that the Newcastle fans are always behind their team.

It is quite ironic how so often the stick that is used to beat us, is that somehow we are deluded to hope for better than relegation battles and/or bottom half of the table finishes.

Yet Arsenal fans get a sympathetic hearing from much of the press, when their team ever fails to win two matches in a row and they call for Arsene Wenger’s head – it happens at some point every season despite Champions League football every season.

When it comes to Saturday’s match, even though Newcastle haven’t won a Premier League game so far, there is a feeling that maybe for the first time in a long time, Newcastle are going into a match against Arsenal with a little bit more momentum than the visitors, after they (Arsenal) picked up a rather lucky four points from their first three matches.

Arsene Wenger:

“We want to do well at Newcastle but it is always very, very, very tight, very committed there, because the crowd is always behind their team.

“They have just come out from a good result at Manchester United so it is important that we prepare well and give absolutely everything to win this game before the break.

We like pressure:

“We have always done very well away from home – last season and the season before, it was the last game of the season that we had to win.

“There has always been something big at stake but we like pressure.”
