Florian Thauvin has given his first interview since joining Newcastle United.

The former Marseille winger saying that it is a ‘big honour’ now being at St James Park, after the club pursued him for so long.

As for his knowledge of the club though…the 22 year old says that he knows Newcastle are a massive club and ‘always finish well (high up)’ in the Premier League (the club did really well to hide that one from him!).

Thauvin says that his bad boy reputation isn’t a reality and is really a ‘humble and simple person’.

He hopes to be involved on Saturday and can’t wait to face Manchester United and sees his favourite position as in the middle (getting a bit congested there…) but can also play on either wing.

Declaring that he sees football as much more than a sport, it will be music to the ears of the fans with Thauvin declaring that he sees it as his duty to try and entertain the supporters every time he goes on the pitch.

Florian Thauvin speaking to the club’s official TV channel:

“Delighted to be here, moving from France to a really big club. It is a really big pleasure for me to know that Newcastle United have wanted me for such a long time. It is a big honour for me to be here and know that they wanted me so badly.

“Magnificent stadium, amazing pitch – I can see it is a really great pitch for playing good football on. I can’t wait to see the stadium full and the atmosphere.

‘What do you know of the Premier League and Newcastle United?

“It is simply the most watched league in the world and I watch it a lot.

“Newcastle is a massive club and they always finish well and they deserve to finish well.

Chris Waddle?’

“I know of him very well, often in France people draw comparisons between myself and Chris Waddle.

“As far as I’m concerned I’m a player who likes to run a lot and attack especially, I like to dribble.

‘Best position?’

“I can play anywhere really on the attacking line, I think maybe my favourite position is more central, I can also play on the wing but the wing but the most important thing is for me to play where the coach asks me to.

“I’m going to do everything I can to entertain.

“Newcastle United is really well known (in France), especially because of all the French players, some of them have had a fantastic career here, others perhaps a little less so.

‘Bad boy?’

“First of all, I go out on the pitch to show the player that I am, my potential, my talent. The reason Newcastle have signed me is that reason.

“I think football is not just a sport, it is an entertainment – when you go out there you do everything you can to make the fans happy, to enjoy watching me play.

“As far as being a person, I am a very humble and simple person but as anybody can, sometimes I can get a little bit angry at times – but I’m definitely not a bad boy.

‘Play at Manchester United?’

“First of all, I am really delighted to be about to start against such as big team with such a great reputation.

“At Manchester United, I can’t wait to get out there, I’m really looking forward to it.”
