Our old friend Robbie Savage has predicted the new season for both Newcastle United and Sunderland.

The one-time average football player believes that Sunderland will out perform Newcastle but not by much.

The TV pundit thinks that both north east clubs will once again be in a relegation fight but just survive, with Newcastle ending up in 16th spot and the mackems one spot higher.

Savage declared on Sunday morning that ‘Brave new dawns on Tyneside must wait’, though in the afternoon Wijnaldum and others suggested that there is decent chance for better times ahead this coming season.

As for Sunderland, Robbie Savage with perfect timing heralded the signing of French international Yann M’Vila, only for the loan signing to get sent off hours later for a ridiculous headbutt incident when turning out for Sunderland reserves.

Robbie Savage writing in The Mirror:

“Steve McClaren has a lot to prove after the way Derby fell apart in the final third of last season in the Championship.

Skipper Fabricio Coloccini has signed a new contract, which is just as well – at times the defending in 2014-15 was embarrassing.

“Brave new dawns on Tyneside must wait.”

“I’m worried when a manager announces he’s off – and then changes his mind a week later, as Dick Advocaat did in May.

“But he has pulled off a coup by landing Yann M’Vila, and the Black Cats have turned great escapes into a fine art.

“Safe again, but not by much.”
