This morning brought news that Newcastle had offered over £10m for Clinton N’Jie.

N’Jie is a Cameroon international who plays up front or on the wing and turns 22 years old in two weeks time.

The forward plays for Lyon and it was only last season that he made his debut in the French League, scoring seven goals as he made 15 starts and another 15 appearances as a substitute.

Both Arsenal and especially Spurs have been credited with interest but not Newcastle, until now.

Various media have reported this morning that Newcastle have made a move for the player.

Though this is where it goes a bit wrong.

The various press claims are reporting that L’Equipe have reported that Newcastle have made a move/bid for Clinton N’Jie.

Though when we have checked out both the L’Equipe website and L’Equipe Twitter account, there isn’t a single mention linking the striker with Newcastle.

It is impossible to tell who first said that L’Equipe had said, Newcastle had made the move, with clearly the rest of the media simply blindly repeating the first one to claim L’Equipe had said this, without checking it out.

What a bizarre world we live in and what wonders the internet and social media have done for the press info you read.

(***Wouldn’t it be just the thing if then Clinton N’Jie is the one Newcastle DO sign!)
