Predicted Newcastle team v Swansea

Who do you think should be in the Newcastle team v Swansea?

The line-up against Southampton took many people by surprise, with Gabriel Obertan starting and Coloccini & Mbemba paired together despite only having 28 minutes in Newcastle’s pre season friendlies between them.

There were many encouraging factors in that opening display but also plenty of room for improvement.

Steve McClaren told the players after the 2-2 draw that he felt they were only currently at 60% of their potential.

The question being, what team selection against Swansea can help to find some of that remaining 40%?

I can’t see the Head coach deviating far from the 4-2-3-1 formation he used against the Saints, with no chance in my opinion of him going for Mitrovic and Cisse up front.

I think a lot of fans will expect McClaren to simply go same again but I do have a feeling he may tweak it a little bit.

In The Mag’s player ratings for NUFC v Southampton, Massadio Haidara was voted by fans as the weakest link in the starting 11 but he looks saved with no fit and viable options.

Coloccini got the next lowest mark but as Captain and with the other alternative being Steven Taylor, you can’t see anything changing there, even though two goals from headers highlighted Newcastle’s continuing problems in dealing with crosses.

Assuming Vurnon Anita is fully ok after returning to training on Wednesday after being stretchered off, I think he will stay in ahead of Cheick Tiote.

However, I fancy maybe Ayoze Perez will get a game ahead of Gabriel Obertan. The Frenchman having an ok game and doing well to get a cross in for Wijnaldum’s stunning header but maybe McClaren preferring the Spaniard’s clever play and ability to keep the ball better than Obertan.

To create the image above I used the NUFC team selector.

You can do the same by following the simple instructions HERE and then there are a number of great options where you can then also share your team via Twitter (include @nufcthemag in your tweet and we will share some of the teams you put up with our 15k+ followers) , or you can share the selector on Facebook with friends, family and the rest of the black and white world. Alternatively, simply downloading the team image to the device you are using.

When using the NUFC team selector you simply click on what team formation (4-3-3, 4-4-2 etc) you want, then click each position on the pitch and choose from the Newcastle United squad.

Go to the NUFC team selector now and choose and share your Newcastle team v Swansea.

Before every match, simply go to the menu at the top of this screen and click features, then on the drop down list click NUFC Team Selector and choose your team for every match.
