Newcastle United are set to shed two more players from the squad, as they look to move on unwanted players, with a Shane Ferguson move reported to be imminent, as he is due to head off to Millwall.

The Lions boss Neil Harris admitted as a fans forum on Thursday night at The Den, that he was hoping to sign a left-winger today which would allow the wide man to instantly play in place of the injured Joe Martin in tomorrow’s League One opener at Shrewsbury.

That player is now widely reported to be Ferguson and an initial loan deal allowing him to instantly play is set to be announced shortly.

Fergsuson’s deal at Newcastle ends in June 2016 and with the player set to be released then regardless, United will be happy to make the move permanent sooner rather than later.

Also looking a certain departure is Mehdi Abeid, with the midfielder reported to have had talks with German second tier club Furtuna Dusseldorf, though they have denied a medical has taken place yet.

Ferguson played a sizeable 243 minutes of first team football for Newcastle in pre season and Mehdi Abeid 165 minutes, despite this neither player look to have any future at St James Park. Both of them used in the pre season friendlies to cover for injuries and the late signings United have ended up making.

I don’t think anybody will think that Ferguson moving on isn’t a good thing for all parties.

However, a large number of fans are permanently bemused as to why Mehdi Abeid has never been given a real chance, even with a change of manager/head coach.
