Reports this Monday morning claim that striker Ivan Toney has agreed a move to Newcastle and will take a medical today.
The Sun say that United and Northampton have agreed an initial fee of around £300,000 with more money later, depending on his progress.
Ivan Toney arrived at St James Park last week and trained with the younger players in the development squad as part of a trial before you buy.
It was earlier reported that a match had been arranged behind closed doors for a Newcastle eleven against Gateshead to take place on Sunday (1pm kick-off), to assist in making a decision as to whether to sign the Northampton striker.
However, that match appears to have been coincidental to any decision on the forward, as Steve McClaren and his coaching team were at the Duncan Ferguson testimonial at Goodison Park yesterday and whilst no news from United, a match report on the Gateshead official website saw no mention of Ivan Toney playing in the 2-1 win for the Heed Army.
