Philippe Albert has turned 48 today and a big happy birthday to the former Newcastle favourite.
Kevin Keegan believed the Belgian international could thrive in the Premier League and brought him to St James Park in 1994.
United paid £2.6m for the Anderlecht defender who had also shown his attacking instincts with 9 goals for the Belgian club (incidentally the same as a certain Chancel Mbemba scored for the same club over the past two seasons).
Albert proved to be a great buy and starred at both ends of the pitch, scoring 8 goals for Newcastle.
Only one way though to celebrate the birthday of Philippe Albert and we head back to 20 October 1996.
Newcastle United 4-0 up against Manchester United and the majestic Albert strides forward….
